In this video, move backstage with journey sports activities photographer Christian Pondella as he travels to Greenland and images expert climber Will Gadd mountaineering inside the polar panorama.
Christian Pondella is an accomplished photographer, rock and ice climber, and skier. He is a senior photographer for Powder magazine, a San Disk Extreme Team member, Fstop Global Pro, and a Lululemon Elite Ambassador. His paintings have graced the pages of Sports Illustrated, ESPN Magazine, Outside, Men’s Journal, Maxim, FHM, GQ, Climbing, Outside Photographer, Shutterbug, and more. His industrial customer list consists of Patagonia, San Disk, Eddie Bauer, Clif Bar, and Red Bull.
Besides the back-of-the-sceneseinspection perspective of Pondella’s process and mindset, two things stick out to me in this video, even as having a digicam in hand. The first is that there may be illumination on the significance of the photographer-athlete courting. Most regularly, outdoor journey photographers tour with and shoot athletes with whom they have a previous, trusting relationship. This makes the technique of photographing in no-fall zones and other precarious situations and places much easier and smoother.
“[Gadd] and I had been doing tasks collectively for almost twenty years now,” says Pondella in the video. “I do not know if I would move right into a glacier with everything else. He brings 30-plus years of enjoying mountaineering and just understanding the environment. There are not many people I put that form of belief into.”
The other component I revel in about this video is its terrific task of illuminating the risks outside photographers take even on a shoot. Not only should they be creatives and masters behind the lens, but outdoor photographers additionally need to be ready inside the outside and willing to place themselves in situations that not many others could or may want to. Whether or not it’s photographing dangerously near an iceberg that might turn at any second or reducing into the abyss of a frozen waterfall, Pondella strategies hazard taking with a thoughtful and careful mind.
Watch the video and leave with a remark announcing your favorite thing about this brief film. Would you ever photograph in precarious locations like those shown in the video?
